Biography

Personal Mission Statement

My mission is to be able to deploy my statistical training and skill sets to positively impact public health. One of my contributions in health services research has resulted in a novel method of analysis for estimating the effectiveness of a variety of cardio-protective medications in the chronic dialysis population. One of the significant findings of this research is that the effectiveness of these medications is affected by the myriad time-dependent patterns of drug usage as opposed to the standard methods that looked only at use versus non-use. Another of my contributions in this area has been to statistically model the effect of various risk factors on ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. One of the potential public health impacts of my research is the ability to estimate the residual longevity of those patients who experience a stroke. I have also been able to translate my knowledge of advanced methods in Survival Analysis to the domain of clinical trials in neurology. In the near future I wish to expand my expertise in the area of clinical trials in cancer so as to be able to make significant contributions toward cancer research

Education

Production Engineering, Mumbai University, Mumbai, India
M.S. in Industrial Engineering, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL
Ph.D. in Biostatistics, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL

Research

My statistical methodological interests include Time-to-event data analyses in the modeling of public outcomes related health care data, clinical trials, and study of disease progression. My collaborations have been in the field of gastroenterology, pharmacoepidemiology, neurology, smoking cessation and other related fields. Recently, I have started collaborating with researchers in Phase-I investigator initiated trials in cancer.
