Minor in Healthcare Management

The Opportunity

Employment of medical and health services managers is expected to grow 17 percent from 2014 to 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics1. A minor in healthcare management prepares students for this growing occupation by providing an in-depth understanding of the U.S. healthcare delivery system. 


Students will be trained on topics like privacy, security, best practices in confidentiality, as well as related requirements for health care professionals. Students will examine the complex financial and reimbursement systems and the roles of quality and performance improvement in health care. The will also gain knowledge and experience in health information systems like electronic health care records and data management. 

Students are required to complete 18 credit hours (6 courses):

Fall Courses:

  • HEIM 415 Healthcare Delivery Systems
  • HEIM 570 Introduction to Healthcare Management
  • HEIM 567 Quality and Performance Improvement in Healthcare
  • HEIM 585 Healthcare Reimbursement and Financing

Spring Courses:

  • HEIM 415 Healthcare Delivery Systems
  • HEIM 570 Introduction to Healthcare Management*
  • HEIM 420 Legal Aspects of Healthcare
  • HEIM 540 Health Information Systems

*Credit for HEIM 570 will be awarded to students who have already taken BBA 303 Organizational Behavior, MGMT 305 Survey of Management or MGMT 310 Organizational Behavior.
