My name is Darius Lane. I recently finished my master’s program at the University of Kansas in Overland Park, but I’m from Queens, N.Y., born and raised.
I started attending college in New York, but I wasn’t quite ready or mature enough to appreciate earning my degree.
A job brought me to Kansas City and that led to the opportunity to finish my bachelor’s degree. This sparked an intense desire to learn. I graduated cum laude.
I landed a great job and got married. Now I am the proud father of twins, Preston and Brayden. They just turned two. God gave me my wife, my home, my kids, my job, my life.
I’m working full time, and I want to be able to differentiate myself from my colleagues when it’s time to apply for a promotion. I don’t want to miss an opportunity to advance because I don’t have the right credentials, so I decided to go back and earn my master’s degree. I’m going to keep climbing.
When selecting a university, I wanted the excellent education KU offered – so I enrolled in the marketing communications master’s program. I’ve taken some incredible courses and the professors are top-notch. They are so full of enthusiasm and knowledge that I can’t help but just soak everything in. It’s an incredible program — and it’s given me the ability to grow, and to grow outwardly, not just up.
