New Graduate Certificate in Learning and Performance Technology Offered at KU Edwards Campus This Fall
(OVERLAND PARK, Kan.) – The University of Kansas Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies has introduced a new graduate certificate program to broaden learning opportunities in educational and organizational technology beginning this fall.
The graduate certificate in learning and performance technology will be offered exclusively at the KU Edwards Campus. Coursework required for the graduate certificate is interdisciplinary in nature, drawing on the rich diversity of a major research university including the following departments at KU: business, communication studies, design, electrical engineering and computer science.
Specifically designed for working professionals and recent college graduates, the graduate certificate prepares students for careers in instructional design and learning technologies in corporate, government, PK-12 and higher education settings. To receive the certificate, graduate students must complete 12 credit hours of coursework.
“We are excited to offer a flexible package of courses that will meet the professional development needs of working professionals in a variety of settings in the Kansas City area,” said Susan Twombly, chair of the educational leadership and policy studies department.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the demand for learning and performance technologists, including instructional designers, will grow much faster than the average for all occupations. This is partly driven by the need for expertise in the design of blended and online learning systems and technology-enriched learning and performance assessments.
“We also want students to know that the 12 credit hours of coursework taken for completion of the graduate certificate can also be applied towards the completion of the master’s degree program in educational technology that is also offered at the Edwards Campus,” said Robert Isaacson, educational technology faculty member at the Edwards Campus.
The Edwards Campus will host an online open house at Noon and 5 p.m. on Monday, July 11, for individuals who would like to interact with program faculty and learn more about the new graduate certificate.
