Inaugural Rock Chalk 5K supports first-generation students
The first Rock Chalk 5K will kick off at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, with a free Fun Run for kids 12 and under. The 5K run/walk begins at 9 a.m. from the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park.
Proceeds from the Rock Chalk 5K will go toward supporting first-generation college students. Stuart Day, dean of the KUEC and School of Professional Studies, hopes the event will unite the campus and the community to raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause.
“We’re excited to start this tradition to help first-generation college students with financial needs as they work hard to complete their degrees at KU Edwards,” says Day. “It’s been incredible to see KUEC faculty and staff come together to bring this new event to life.”
Participants are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes. Prizes will be awarded for the best kids’ costumes.
Whether you’re a KU student, staff, or faculty member, a local runner or a casual walker, or a member of the community, we encourage you to join us for this festive, family-friendly event.
