KU Edwards Campus Enrollment Continues to Rise
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - KU Edwards Campus total enrollment increased four percent compared to last spring, indicating the local workforce continues to see value in heading back to school while the job market rebuilds from the recession.
New offerings in business lead the campus' undergraduate enrollment growth, which increased by 14 percent from last spring. The campus launched a new Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in January and a new business minor began last fall. These programs are the first new programs at the Edwards Campus funded through the Johnson County Education and Research Triangle initiative.
"There could not have been a better time to launch the business minor and undergraduate degree on this campus," said Bob Clark, vice chancellor of KU Edwards Campus. "Business is the perfect degree to position students to successfully compete for jobs while the economic conditions are so challenging."
Notable enrollments by schools include Journalism, up 26 percent; Architecture, Design and Planning, up 25 percent; Business, up 14 percent; Education, up 9 percent; and Liberal Arts and Sciences, up four percent.
The campus also saw an increase of four percent in both resident and non-resident enrollment.
"With new opportunities and more programs on the way, we hope to continue the momentum we are currently experiencing," said Clark.
To accommodate this growth, the campus will add a million, 75,000 square-foot building. Groundbreaking is planned for this April.
