Biography —
Debra Carter MS Ed. serves as an enrollment analyst for The University of Kansas School of Professional Studies. With extensive experience in higher education Debra has dedicated her career to holistically supporting students as they face transition and change.
Debra has more than 20 years of expertise in teaching, consulting, and coordinating a spectrum of student-centric services, programs, and initiatives all intended to enrich and enhance their individual experience. She has taught, mentored, and coached students from kindergarten through graduate school, hailing from over 50 countries and possessing a wide array of talents and skills sets.
Currently completing her doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi, Debra is focused on studying the transitions of returning adult learners as they re-enter college to complete their degrees.
In previous teaching roles, Debra taught adaptations of KU’s university Orientation Seminar, which introduced students to university life, resources, and expectations. Realigning the curriculum to serve international students’ goals and objectives, the courses focused on successful transitions, and developing strategies for academic and career success.
Debra has a wealth of experience working with students as they begin their college experience and as they enter the professional workforce. She takes great care to address each student’s individual needs, goals, and ambitions, helping them develop their strengths and leverage their innate abilities. This personalized approach helps students achieve incremental wins, building a strong foundation for academic and career success.
