Biography

Katy Wichman began her GIS career after graduating from the University of Kansas in 2011 with a double major in environmental studies and geography. After some time in the industry, she returned to KU to attend the Professional Science Master in environmental assessment (PSMEA) program in 2014. Her capstone project was the basis for the creation of a GIS course that would be taught in the PSMEA program. Wichman brings a wide variety of skills and subject matter from her years in the GIS industry to the course and she strives to empower students to find new and creative ways to explore the environmental topics they are passionate about while keeping course material current and fresh. After the PSM, Wichman relocated to the western U.S. and has worked for companies and agencies such as Henkels & McCoy, the Sanborn Map Company, and the Bureau of Land Management as a GIS Engineer and QC Specialist.
