Biography

Misty Campbell, M.S., SHRM-CP, is currently an Associate Professor of Practice within the University of Kansas Criminal Justice Program. She holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology and is a Certified Professional within the Society of Human Resource Management. Her areas of emphasis include victimology, individual and community trauma, community collaborations for violence prevention and response, and the practitioner experience. Professor Campbell started her career working with victims of violent crime at the community, county, and state levels. Her early career focused on direct service engagement with victims of intimate partner violence and sexual violence, and developing coordinated community response teams within rural communities. Her work shifted, while at the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, towards state-wide implementation of SANE/SART protocols, evidence-based practices for sexual violence response, and training and program development.  Transitioning from KCSDV, she worked with victims of violent crime within the court, correctional, medical, and educational systems. This included direct service engagement, training, and program development regarding victims of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and the families of homicide victims.

She is a subject matter expert in trauma response and community-responsive violence prevention, serving as a consultant, facilitator, and collaborative trainer. She currently serves on the Kansas City Violence Prevention Fund Evaluation Team, co-presenting the team's work at the 10th Annual National Public Safety Partnership Summit. She is also an active volunteer within the violence prevention and response space providing training for agencies serving family court-involved youth and advocacy services for domestic sex trafficking victims.
