Biography

Major Nicole Walters grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, on a track and field scholarship. During her college years, she received her undergraduate degree in criminal justice and sociology, gaining work experience in corrections at the Dauphin County, PA, Prison System’s Program for Female Offenders and as a corrections officer for Integrity Correctional Centers in Johnson County, Missouri.  Upon being hired as a graduate assistant to coach track and field at the University of Central Missouri, Major Walters relocated to Kansas City, Mo. Her interests expanded to the study of social issues and the criminal justice system, leading to the completion of her Master’s Degree in Sociology. She began her professional career in law enforcement at Lee’s Summit, Mo. Police Department, where she has served in various roles within the Patrol Operations Division, Administrative Division, and Criminal Investigations Division. Major Walters has also worked as an investigator and undercover officer on a drug task force within the Special Investigations Unit. Certified as a bomb technician, she has also served as the past president of the Lee’s Summit Police Officers’ Association. With over 22 years of service, Major Walters currently holds the rank of Major and serves as the Criminal Investigations Division Commander. As a police professional, Major Walters is dedicated to fostering community and social relationships through active engagement. As an educator, she prioritizes student growth and educational dialogue, creating an environment conducive to thought-provoking discussions and comprehensive understanding of social and cultural dynamics impacting criminal justice and perceptions of law enforcement. Her overarching goal is to equip students with critical thinking skills applicable to real-world experiences.
