Biography

Janie Prather, MBA, lecturer for the American Sign Language and Deaf Studies department joined KU Edwards Campus in the Spring of 2022.  She is bilingual in American Sign Language and English and has been teaching since 2016.  Prather has over 25 years of ASL/English interpreting experience in various settings, including educational, community and virtual. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Missouri Western State University and her MBA from Baker University. Her continued work as an ASL/English interpreter gives real-world applications to instructional material and class discussions. Prather is nationally certified through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and is passionate about supporting and encouraging those considering the interpreting profession, as well as members of the diverse community involved.
