Biography

Sonia Thomas is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Applied Biological Sciences program at the KU Edwards Campus. She received her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry/Zoology and Master's degree in Biochemistry from Mumbai University and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware. She then went on to do postdoctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University specializing in the effects of multiple myeloma on the bone, the role the tumor microenvironment plays in cancer and tissue engineering strategies. Her teaching interests include biochemistry, physiology, neurobiology and cancer biology. Her research interests include understanding the mechanisms that promote cancer and the role of the tumor microenvironment in the support of cancer growth, and tissue regeneration. Her passions in life are her family and training the next generation in being successful in an ever-changing environment. In her spare time, she enjoys going for walks with her husband in the beautiful outdoors of Kansas.
