Find support in the Business & Technology Transfer Community
Since its inception, KU Edwards has provided a wide variety of undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs to working professionals. Our focus on evening and online classes allows our students to better balance work, family, and education. The Business & Technology Transfer Community will help you maintain that balance.
While you’re finishing your associate’s degree, the Transfer Community will help you transition to KUEC. You’ll be connected to career and community events so you can meet the people who, like you, are also completing their degrees.
The Transfer Community is also here to help non-traditional students. If you’re a parent with kids, working part-time or full-time jobs, or if you’re the first in your family to go after a degree, you’ll be joining a community of students taking the same leap of faith you are.
Why should I join the Business & Technology Transfer Community?
The Business & Technology Transfer Community is designed to provide you with specific skills, and give you access to training and other experiences, to give you a true competitive professional edge. These communities are designed to make you feel like a member of the KU Edwards Campus while you complete your associate’s degree and market-relevant credentials along the way. As a member of a transfer community, you can expect to:
Establish relationships with KUEC faculty and staff before you start classes.
- Develop a plan with milestones to complete your associate’s and bachelor’s degrees.
- Join professional and social events at KUEC and your community college.
- Engage in leadership activities in the KC metro.
Meet your Academic Advisors
Whatever your major turns out to be, Academic Advisors will help you succeed and guide you through your college career, making a good college experience into a great one. They will help you plan your degree and give you the support you need to accomplish your goal. Meet Angela Hughes and Jenny Parr.
Angela Hughes: I am an Academic Advisor because I love education. I believe once the mind is expanded through knowledge, there is no way it will shrink to its original size. As a first-generation college student, my passion came from my personal experience. I learned a lot about navigating the college process on my own, and if I can assist someone else with removing barriers to advancing their life, then I am honored to be a part of that process.
Jenny Parr: I am an Academic Advisor because the one-on-one connections I have with students help me realize I have an impact on their academic success. I try to meet them where their needs are and be the person in whom they know they can turn to for help, or just to share a success story with. This, to me, is the heart of a student-centered coach, advisor, mentor, or guide, and – in some ways – teacher. For me, it’s a success when I can see a student all the way through to graduation, especially if the road was bumpy along the way.
As a student at KUEC, you can contact your academic advisor at any time to discuss:
- Admission requirements
- Career paths
- Class schedules & time commitment
- Curriculum
- Enrollment process
- Financial aid including scholarships, grants, discounts, and loans
