KU’s bachelor of science in elementary education is an entry point into the education field. Graduates with a degree in elementary education may work as elementary teachers or pursue further training to enter a career in special education, school counseling, or as an education specialist. With this degree, graduates may teach in public or private elementary schools.

Is a bachelor’s degree in elementary education right for you?

KU’s bachelor of science in elementary education prepares Kindergarten-Grade 6 educators to structure rigorous learning experiences for students in core academic content areas, as well as address the social and emotional needs of students within and beyond the classroom, into the global community. Coursework fulfills the requirements for a bachelor’s degree and prepares students to pursue a Kansas initial teaching license.

The elementary education program meets the educational requirements for licensure in the state of Kansas. If you plan to obtain a license or certification in a state other than Kansas or a US territory after completion of your program, it is highly recommended you first seek guidance from the appropriate licensing agency BEFORE beginning the academic program to ensure you can obtain a license of certification in your home state or territory.
